Ubisoft Reveals Assassin's Creed II DLC Plans
The first DLC episode, Battle of Forli, is planned for release in January, while the second, Bonfire of the Vanities, hits a month later in February.
The downloadable content will fill out the missing memory blocks in Assassin's Creed II. The titles of the content are telling in themselves. The battle of Forli most likely deals with the town being seized by Cesare Borgia (The villain in ACII) in 1499. Control of the town had previously been claimed by Pope Sixtus IV and given to his nephew Gerolamo Riario. Riario's wife was the beautiful Caterina Sforza, who fans of the game might remember running into as Ezio tried to board a boat to Venice. It's possible that the plot aligns Ezio with Caterina as she fights for the town's independence.
The Bonfire of the Vanities is a more popular historical event where supporters of the church would congregate and burn possessions that were associated with vanity like mirrors or make-up. The game refers to one such event taking place in Florence during one of the missing memories. Historically, the confrontation resulted in Caterina being taken prisoner by Cesare Borgia and relocated to Rome.
Ubisoft didn't mention any pricing details just yet, however, they did drop an unusually large harddrive space requirement. Each DLC has a minimum 1GB of needed memory, meaning these episodes could be pretty lengthy.
The PS3 and Facebook Get Friendly
Possible PSN Update this Week!
November 16, 2009 - As the sun sets on another fine Monday, the PlayStation Blog delivers some interesting news for all you Trophy nuts out there that want to brag on Facebook. According to a blog post by Director of PlayStation Network Operations Eric Lempel, firmware update version 3.10 will introduce Facebook connectivity to the PS3 and the PlayStation Network.
The new update enables PS3 users to link their Facebook accounts with their PlayStation Network accounts via the Account Management submenu. Once linked, users can then opt to share a variety of information directly on their Facebook profile. For example, you can share Trophy information or your PlayStation Store purchases. Once enabled, users receive a prompt during normal PSN perusal that asks if the information should be posted to Facebook. Clicking yes sends that lovely update right to your profile.
This update enables developers to call out game-specific updates within a particular piece of software and have it pop up on Facebook. So if you liked auto-Twittering your Uncharted 2 progress, maybe future titles will give you the ability to brag about your progress right on your profile.
Update 3.10 also cleans up photo galleries by displaying items in a grid, as opposed to a straight, vertical line. Lastly, the "new" Friends List is streamlined to only display the background color for the currently selected friend profile. Users can select this color from their PSN profile page.
Lempel does not mention when the update will be available, but if the timing of past is anything to go by, users can expect 3.10 sometime this week.
Game Retailers Selling Modern Warfare 2 Early!
November 6, 2009 - It seems many retailers across the globe were unable to successfully hold off selling Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 before its November 10 release date.
Customers have begun flaunting their early copies on internet forums, suggesting where and how others can purchase the game early. In North America, it seems smaller retailers are the culprit, getting the jump on mega chains such as Best Buy and Walmart.
A GameStop representative told IGN the company has not heard any reports of its own stores selling Modern Warfare 2 early, and plans to host its biggest midnight launch event ever for the title.
GameIndustry.Biz reports several European retailers, including LoveFilm and The Hut, accidentally mailed out copies early. "We are dedicated to getting products to customers on release. We use Royal Mail as our preferred courier and were advised to dispatch on Thursday for delivery on Tuesday due to the impending strike action. This was called off on Thursday evening and we have contacted Royal Mail to hold the product until Tuesday," The Hut issued in a statement.
Meanwhile, Eurogamer reports GAME, Europe's leading online game retailer, denied mailing copies early despite automatic e-mails claiming copies have started shipping.
Did you score an early copy? Let us know where.
